When is the Best Time to Book this Safari?

While the migration is active all year, the timing of your 7 Days Wildebeest Migration Masai Mara and Serengeti safari will dictate what chapters of the journey you witness:

  • July to October (Peak River Crossings): This is the most popular time. The herds are split between northern Serengeti and the Masai Mara, making it the prime window for river crossings.

  • January to March (Calving Season): The herds gather in the southern Serengeti. It’s the best time to see predator-prey interactions as lions and leopards target vulnerable newborns.

  • November & December / April to June (The Green Seasons): The herds are moving through the western and eastern corridors. You’ll experience fewer crowds and lush, emerald landscapes.

Tour Plan

Nairobi to the Mighty Masai Mara NairobiMasai Mara

Your adventure begins in Nairobi, where your safari guide will pick you up early in the morning. You’ll drive through the breathtaking Great Rift Valley, descending into the golden savannahs of the Masai Mara.

Arrive at your lodge or luxury tented camp in time for lunch. In the late afternoon, head out for your first game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for the "Big Five" (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino) as they begin their evening hunts.

Dinner. Overnight

Full Day in the Masai Mara (The River Crossing Quest) The Heart of the Action

Today is dedicated entirely to tracking the Great Migration. After an early breakfast, pack a picnic lunch and head deep into the reserve toward the Mara River.

What to expect: This is where the ultimate drama happens. Thousands of wildebeest gather on the riverbanks, hesitant of the massive Nile crocodiles lurking in the water. When the first brave wildebeest leaps, a chaotic, spectacular frenzy follows. It’s a raw display of nature at its most intense.

Dinner & Overnight

Day 3 Cross the Border from Masai Mara to Serengeti

Bid farewell to Kenya as you take an early morning drive toward the Isebania border post. After brief customs and immigration formalities, you will switch vehicles and meet your Tanzanian guide, stepping straight into the world-famous Serengeti National Park.

Enjoy a packed lunch and a game drive en route to your lodge. The transition from the Mara’s rolling hills to the Serengeti’s "endless plains" is visually stunning.

DAY 4/5 Deep Dive into the Serengeti Migration Corridors

Spend two full days exploring the vast Serengeti ecosystem. Depending on the exact month of your travel, your guide will position you exactly where the herds are most concentrated.

July to October: You’ll target Northern Serengeti to catch the herds moving between the two countries.

Expect to see massive prides of lions, sleek cheetahs scanning the plains from kopjes (granite rock formations), and endless horizons filled with wildlife.

Dinner & Overnight

Day 6 Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti as you make your way toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, you have the option to visit a traditional Maasai Boma to learn about the rich culture, vibrant dances, and ancient customs of East Africa's most famous nomadic tribe

Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in the evening for dinner and a spectacular sunset.

Day 7 Ngorongoro Crater Floor Tour & Departure

On your final day, descend 600 meters down into the volcanic caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. This self-contained ecosystem hosts over 30,000 animals, including East Africa’s densest predator populations and the rare black rhino

After a memorable lunch beside the hippo pool, ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight home
